Ethos - the MLS group's charitable foundation...
As part of its commitment to ethical practice in business, MLS Group has recently established Ethos – a foundation to promote and encourage social enterprise. The main aim of the foundation is to help improve the world in which we live and work to the advantage of others around us. There are four areas EthosMLS is concentrating on:Charities and Events
An increasing amount of charities are taking office space with MLS and as such the company felt it was important to support and recognise this fact. We began by offering discounted rates on office space or meeting room usage, but have now branched out to actually supporting the charities' work and various events.
Fairtrade
Fairtrade is an organisation set up to protect farmers and small scale producers in developing countries by encouraging consumers to buy direct from the farmers so that they get a fairer price for their produce. MLS have rolled out Fairtrade produce across all of its business centres including Fairtrade tea, coffee and sugar which will further help this important cause. For more information on Fairtrade please see www.fairtrade.org.uk
Volunteering
As the company has grown, both clients and colleagues are increasingly becoming involved in voluntary events in the local business community. MLS now offer staff time off when they take part in voluntary work. For more information about volunteering please email: ethos@mlsbusinesscentres.com
Environment
Our business centres have started becoming much more environmentally friendly; this includes recycling schemes for cartridges, paper, furniture and plastic. In many of our centres, MLS are introducing Enviroboxes to enable clients to recycle in their office. So as well as an efficient business environment, you can also now be an eco-friendly business!
MLS India
As a living example of Ethos, MLS are planning a project whereby a member of staff will spend a year in India, setting up a business that will benefit local infrastructure, the local community and the local economy all at the same time. Two members from the MLS board have travelled to south west India to see how Ethos can be involved and to lay the foundations for these projects.
